Georgia Department of Agriculture Dairy Program Recognized for Excellence in Dairy Safety Compliance

Atlanta, Ga - Today, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper announced the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s (GDA) Dairy Program has achieved official recognition for its exceptional compliance with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Milk Safety Program. Following thorough assessments of state administrative procedures, records, discussions with GDA personnel, and comprehensive evaluations conducted from January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2023, the FDA has determined that Georgia’s Grade “A” National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipments (NCIMS) Program fully adheres to the USFDA Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) and the Procedures Governing the Cooperative State-PHS/FDA Program of the NCIMS.

“This recognition reaffirms the Georgia Department of Agriculture Dairy Program’s leadership in dairy safety and regulatory compliance,” said Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper. “Our Dairy team is dedicated to upholding the highest standards to safeguard Georgia consumers and support our state’s dairy industry. We appreciate the FDA’s acknowledgment of our staff’s unwavering commitment to excellence.”

The Triennial State Program Evaluation (SPE) report, whose purpose is to assess both strengths and weaknesses of the state’s milk and dairy safety program, highlights the GDA Dairy Program as an exemplary participant within the NCIMS framework, recognizing Georgia as a model state that embodies the cooperative spirit and core principles of the NCIMS. This accolade underscores the dedication and expertise of the GDA and its staff, who consistently demonstrate a steadfast commitment to public health and safety.

The GDA remains committed to its mission to ensure that all milk and dairy products produced and distributed within Georgia meet stringent health and safety standards. By complying with federal regulations and participating actively in the NCIMS program, Georgia continues to uphold its reputation as a leader in agricultural excellence.
